Whether your workplace encourages individuality or wants a uniform, invisible waitstaff with subtle accessories, cleanliness and a polished appearance will meet customer expectations.
Pay attention to personal hygiene.
Customers will notice your hands and fingernails. They may notice odors as well (like cigarette smoke) so make use of deodorant and breath mints as needed.
Report to work with a tidy uniform.
Of course, the work can be messy, but at least start out fresh and ready to go!
Avoid touching your hair or face in front of customers.
Wash your hands frequently and maintain food safety standards.

Take the time to learn the menu. Guests will rely on your for recommendations, explanations of menu items, and vital allergy information.

Are there any nuts in it?
Does it have pepper?
What do your recommend that is bland and gluten free?
Never guess about ingredients! Always check. Food allergies can be life-threatening.

Make Eye Contact
Without eye contact, you cannot make a connection with your customer.
Give them a warm, friendly greeting.

Use your manners. Say "please" and "thank you."
Use "Sir" and "Ma'am as appropriate.
Pro Tip: Think hard before using "honey" or "sweetie."
